Santa Clara, the capital of Villa Clara province, was founded on July 15, 1689.
It’s a province characterized by wide prairies with mountains, rivers and artificial lakes as borders, what favors full contact with nature. A region with great affection for history, mainly represented by the figure of Ernesto Che Guevara, who led in this territory the final action that brought about the triumph of the Revolution on January 1, 1959.
There is a gorgeous group of islets to the north of Villa Clara, which winds on a multi-toned sea that ranges from green to blue. Gaviota’s hotels are located next to the second largest coral reef in the world.
A natural paradise of over 17 Km, nearly 77 thousand hectares and more than 250 species of plants. Its most prized jewels are Cays Las Brujas, Ensenachos and Santa Maria where native vegetation takes to wonderful beaches with fine sand and crystalline water.
These cays are linked to Caibarien by a 48-km-long causeway. This place, declared Biosphere Reservoir, is an example of the harmonious merge of nature and engineering.
